Newcastle / Lake Macquarie Respite (HACC)

Newlake respite funds the provision of respite in a variety of settings to meet the respite needs of carers of frail, aged or younger people with a disability, aged to 65 years.  The care can be provided in the care recipient home, by a host family or on a holiday or excursion. The care can be provided by a volunteer or a paid employee or contractor.

Once the clients’ needs are identified a Respite Care Plan will be developed that will allocate a fixed financial amount to a client for respite for a specified period, usually 6 or 12 months.

There is no guarantee that funds will be available for another respite package at the conclusion of each period.
The Case manager will discuss with the carer the options for receiving the care. The carer may choose, within the allocated resources, the days and times that respite occurs.

Am I Eligible?

To be eligible you should:
  • Be the carer of a person who is a frail older person or a person with a disability, and
  • not be living in a hospital, group home or residential care facility, and
  • not be receiving care under a Community Aged Care Package, Service Access System or Attendant Care Program, and
  • reside in the Lake Macquarie or Newcastle Local Government areas.
